Floral wedding themes are forever popular, and it’s easy to see why. It’s simple to weave flowers through your entire day – from the first look at your wedding (your wedding invitations, of course!) to the ceremony to reception. Use the same bloom throughout, and you’ll have a cohesive look from beginning to end!

If you’re wondering what kind of flower to build your wedding style around, we’re here with ideas! To narrow down the choices, start with the season you’re getting married in, then choose your favorite.

Here are our favorites, and the prettiest invitations to pair with them:

1. Sunflowers

There’s just something about sunflowers, isn’t there? You can’t look at a big bouquet of these sunny blossoms without feeling happy. Sunflowers are best used in summer or fall weddings. They’re in season, making them extra affordable, and the yellow to brown coloring is so sweet for these seasons. Avoid sunflowers in winter and early spring, or you’ll be paying more to import them from far away destinations.

Especially ideal for a rustic and country wedding themes, sunflowers are best paired with casual styling. Choose a sunflower wedding invitation with a rustic vibe to set the tone from the very start!

2. Roses

A rose-themed wedding is appropriate in any season. The key to pulling off the look is to choose the right kind of roses, depending on what month your wedding is in.

In the fall, create an autumn-inspired palette with apricot, rust and orange colored roses. Work with your florist to choose the right variety and coloration.

If you’re thinking that roses can’t work for a winter wedding, we promise you they can! Go romantic with deep burgundy roses (often called black magic roses) for a look that’s dramatic and velvety. Creating a winter, white look is also possible. Choosing a variety of cream to white roses, along with winter white berries, will create a look that’s frosty and gorgeous!

And finally, for a spring or summer wedding, take your inspiration from the garden. Match your roses to your wedding color theme – remember, you can find roses in shades of purple to pink to yellow and more – and coordinate everything from your wedding invites to bridal bouquets to match.

3. Wildflowers

Love a boho wedding style? A wildflower theme might be the right choice for you, and it’s especially a great choice for spring, summer or fall weddings.

The key to picking the right wildflower look depends on your wedding’s season. In the spring, go with pastels that range from blush to sage to lilac. This look can also be used in the summer months, or you could also choose brighter blooms in shades of fuchsia to orange. In the fall, look for harvest-inspired colors paired with wheat and other dried botanicals.

4. Hydrangeas

There is one flower that is SO summer: hydrangeas!

They’re elegant, classic and beautifully dainty. Traditional hydrangeas come in shades of white or light blue. We adore choosing a blue hydrangea wedding theme, and using the dusty blue color in everything from bridesmaid dresses to table linens.

5. Dahlias

On the search for a flower that’s unique and beautiful? Take a look at dahlias, especially if you’re planning a fall wedding.

Dahlias grow all summer and bloom in early fall, making them perfect for autumn weddings. Lusciously large with silky petals, dahlia flowers in rusty orange, deep burgundy and jewel-toned fuchsia are so pretty, they look like they’ve been painted by nature!
