How Much to Budget for Wedding Invitations

In your search to figure out how much wedding invitations cost, you have probably run across a lot of articles giving you average dollar amounts. When doing my own research, those wedding invitation budgets seemed crazy high! Who actually spends more than $10 on each invitation suite?!

So let’s put together a realistic budget for your wedding stationery. Remember, this budget includes everything from your save the dates to invitations to thank you cards.

Featured Wedding Invitation Set: Clearly in Love

Instead of using an arbitrary dollar amount, let’s use a percentage based on your total wedding budget. Your wedding invitation and stationery budget should be 2% of your all-in wedding budget. Let’s do the math:

  • $5,000 Wedding Budget = $100 Wedding Invitation and Stationery Budget
  • $10,0000 Wedding Budget = $200 Wedding Invitation and Stationery Budget
  • $20,000 Wedding Budget = $400 Wedding Invitation and Stationery Budget
  • $30,000 Wedding Budget = $600 Wedding Invitation and Stationery Budget
  • $50,000 Wedding Budget = $1,000 Wedding Invitation and Stationery Budget

How to Cut Your Wedding Invitation Budget

We find that a typical wedding invitation set for couples on a budget includes the wedding invitation, response card and an information card. Here’s a pricing breakdown for those 3 pieces:

  • Wedding Invitations = 99¢ each
  • RSVP Cards = FREE (included in the price of invitations)
  • Information Cards = 49¢ each

Add 99¢ + 49¢ for a very low $1.48 per suite…sweet! Now you might be tempted to multiply that number by your number of guests but remember, you’re only sending one wedding invitation suite per household, not guest. So if you’re inviting 100 people and they all happen to be couples, you’re only sending 50 wedding invitations. Now let’s do a little math again:

  • 50 Invitation Sets and Information cards = $74
  • 100 Invitation Sets and Information cards = $148
  • 100 Invitation Sets and Information cards = $148

Remember to factor in additional wedding stationery you may need because that also counts toward your 2%. Other wedding stationery needs might include:
