How to Word Your Wedding Announcement

You did it. You’re married! Congratulations!

First, take a moment to soak up that newlywed feeling because it is the BEST. In fact, this is such a joy-filled time in your lives that you really should shout it from the rooftops. Or, better yet, send a wedding announcement to your loved ones declaring the two of you are officially married.

How to Word Your Wedding Announcement

As small weddings have become more popular, so have real, paper wedding announcements. Exactly what is a wedding announcement? It’s a printed card that you mail to your friends and family (yes, in the actual mail – crazy, we know!) to announce your newly-married status.

Some announcements are designed to share a photo; others feature a personal note from the married couple. Not only are wedding announcements fun to create, they are one of the most wonderful pieces of mail to receive. Your friends and family will be delighted by the news and love that you took the time to send a real announcement.

You can send a wedding announcement whether you had a large, traditional wedding, micro-wedding or eloped. And yes, you should send wedding announcements to anyone and everyone you want to share your news with, including the guests who were actually at your wedding.

How to word your wedding announcement depends on how much information you wish to share:

step one: add your names

Easy, right? Hang on! If either of you have had a last name change, this is the place to share it!

step two: add your wedding date and location

Everyone will want to know when and where your wedding took place, especially if you eloped!

step three: share celebration details

If you had a destination wedding, small wedding or eloped, it’s common to have a reception at some point after your ceremony. You can share the news on your wedding announcement and even turn it into reception-only invitation if you’d like.
